What does this fault code mean?
The telephone module (PHM) reads the signal from the handset, meaning the cradle switch that senses when the handset sits in its holder. The fault is stored when the handset signal has a value that is not the expected one. This is due to the cable from the handset to the control module being short-circuited to supply voltage or having an open circuit. Then only hands-free works.
Possible causes
- The cradle signal cable from the handset to the control module is short-circuited to supply voltage
- The cradle signal cable from the handset to the control module has an open circuit
What you can do
- 1First look at the fuses in the fuse box. Their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the cover of the box
- 2Check that the connector in the handset and the cable leaving the handset are fully engaged and not chafed or pinched
- 3With a multimeter you can check that the cable has no contact with supply voltage (positive) and is not broken
- 4After these checks: clear the code, road test the car and try the handset. If the code returns, a workshop needs to measure the wiring harness
Symptoms you may notice5
