What does this fault code mean?

The control modules on the CAN network must have the same signal configuration ID to communicate. The telephone module (PHM) compares its ID with the one the central electronics control module (CEM) sends out, and the fault is stored when they do not match. The telephone module then switches itself off from the network, and the phone and Volvo On Call are affected.

    Possible causes

    • Incorrect configuration ID because the module was not built for this car, for example a used unit with different software or hardware
    • Break in the CAN wires between the telephone module and the central electronics control module (CEM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Has a telephone module recently been replaced or a used one fitted? If so, it is probably the one with the wrong configuration, and a workshop must load the correct software
    2. 2Read the fault codes in the central electronics control module (CEM) with diagnostic equipment, and first trace the codes for lost communication
    3. 3Check that the CAN wiring connectors at the telephone module are firmly seated and not corroded
    4. 4After the work: clear the code and check that it does not come back

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • The mobile phone has problems
    • Volvo On Call does not work as it should
    • Text window and warning symbol with a text message

    What the fault can affect2

    • The control module switches itself off (bus-off)
    • The control module responds to diagnostic commands while the fault code is stored

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
