What does this fault code mean?
The control modules in the car communicate over the CAN network. The telephone module (PHM) registers a serious disturbance where CAN communication is blocked, and then the telephone module cannot be reached. The fault may lie in the network wiring or in a control module that disturbs communication.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Break in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the telephone module (PHM)
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1With diagnostic equipment, read the fault codes in the central electronics control module (CEM) and trace first the codes for communication faults
- 2Check the connectors at the telephone module and at the central electronics control module for oxidation, loose contacts and chafed wires
- 3Lift the negative battery terminal for a while and reconnect it if some control modules have ended up in limp-home mode
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the resistance in the CAN network and establish which control module is disturbing communication
Symptoms you may notice3
- Volvo On Call has no function or reduced function
- The phone has no function or reduced function
- The mobile phone has problems, and a message appears in the text display
What the fault can affect1
