What does this fault code mean?
The control modules in the car communicate over the CAN network. The telephone module (PHM) registers a serious disturbance in which CAN communication is blocked, so the telephone module cannot be reached. The telephone module has then disconnected itself from the network (bus-off).
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Break in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the telephone module (PHM)
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronics control module (CEM) with diagnostic equipment and trace the communication faults first
- 2Check the connectors at the telephone module and at the central electronics control module for oxidation, loose contacts and chafed wires
- 3If control modules are stuck in limp-home mode, disconnect the negative battery terminal for a while
- 4If the fault remains, a workshop should measure the resistance in the CAN network and establish which module is disturbing it
Symptoms you may notice3
- The mobile phone has problems, and a message appears in the text display
- Volvo On Call does not work as it should
- Text window and warning symbol with a text message
What the fault can affect1
