Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The telephone module (PHM) has lost communication with the climate control unit (CCM), or the communication is disturbed. The code points to a fault in the communication over the CAN network and does not single out one control module. The climate control may then work poorly or not at all, and the phone and Volvo On Call can be affected.
Possible causes
- No power supply to the climate control unit (CCM)
- Break in the earth wire to the climate control unit (CCM)
- Contact resistance in connections
- Break or short circuit in the CAN wires
- The climate control unit is not intended for this car, for example a used unit with different software or hardware
- Several fault codes for communication faults with other modules in the central electronics control module may point to a shared fault in the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Switch the ignition on and run the cabin fan. The fan should blow and it should be possible to adjust its speed
- 2Check that the connectors at the climate control unit are firmly seated and not corroded
- 3Make the same check at the connectors of the telephone module
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment trace the climate control unit and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice4
- The climate control does not work at all
- The climate control keeps working after the key has been removed
- Volvo On Call does not work as it should
- Text window and warning symbol with a text message
