POT-B13C712 - Position Sensor 2. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery
System
Power Operated Tailgate (POT)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC60 (2009–)
Show models by year and engine (1)
What does this fault code mean?
A wire carrying the right-hand hall sensor's signal to the motor that opens and closes the tailgate has picked up voltage, or the sensor itself is damaged. The tailgate control module (POT) has found the sensor short-circuited to battery voltage.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to voltage on the hall sensor's signal wire
- Damaged hall sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the tailgate are intact
- 2Read off and clear the fault code, test drive and see whether it returns
- 3Check that the wire carrying the right hall sensor's signal is intact and not chafed along its route to the motor
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no voltage to ground where it should not
- 5Check that the connectors at the hall sensor and the control module are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 6If the wiring is intact: have a workshop replace the hall sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The tailgate is hard to close
- The tailgate is hard to open
- Automatic opening and closing of the tailgate does not work
