Show models by year and engine (1)
What does this fault code mean?
The tailgate control module (POT) has received a signal from the right-hand hall sensor after the tailgate has started to move during automatic opening or closing, when no signal should come. The fault can be due to a cable short to ground or a break, a damaged hall sensor, or the tailgate's movement being mechanically blocked.
Possible causes
- Signal cable from the hall sensor is short-circuited to ground
- Break in the signal cable running from the hall sensor
- Damaged hall sensor
- Tailgate movement is mechanically blocked
- Damaged tailgate opening motor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the tailgate are intact
- 2Read off and clear the fault code, then test the automatic opening and closing to see whether it comes back
- 3Check that the tailgate runs freely through its whole movement without binding
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check that the hall sensor status changes evenly as the tailgate opens and closes automatically
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable from the hall sensor has no break and no contact with ground
- 6If the wiring is intact: have a workshop replace the hall sensor or check the motor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The tailgate is hard to close
- The tailgate is hard to open
- Automatic opening and closing of the tailgate does not work
