What does this fault code mean?
The compensation for oversteer or understeer has gone outside its tolerance. The control module uses built-in sensing to detect whether a wheel is spinning or the car is turning sharply, and then picks a response such as braking one wheel. The cause may lie in the tyres or the suspension.
Possible causes
- Puncture in one or more tyres
- Unevenly worn tyres, compared front and rear
- Tyre with incorrect dimension fitted to the front or rear axle, compared with the other tyres on the car
- Incorrectly adjusted suspension
What you can do
- 1Check that no tyre is punctured and that the pressure is the same in all tyres
- 2Compare the tyre size and wear front and rear with each other and with the other tyres on the car
- 3Check that the tyres on the same axle are of the same size
- 4Clear the fault code and test drive to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault returns after the tyre check: have a workshop check the suspension alignment
- 6Safety note: steering and tyres are safety-critical, so have a workshop carry out the check if the car still pulls
Symptoms you may notice2
- Steering requires extra or uneven effort
- Steering has excessive free play or wanders
