What does this fault code mean?
The power steering control module (PSCM) has registered that the temperature is too high in the electro-hydraulic power steering, so the power assistance is weak or missing. This can be due to hot ambient or engine bay conditions together with hard driving, a blocked hose or other hydraulic trouble, or a damaged control module.
Possible causes
- Hot outside air or a hot engine bay, together with hard driving
- A blocked hose or pipe at the steering rack, or another mechanical or hydraulic problem in the steering
- Damaged power steering control module (PSCM)
What you can do
- 1Let the car cool before you check the power steering, and make sure the fluid level in the power steering reservoir is correct
- 2Look for leaks at the steering gear, the hoses and the pipes
- 3Check that hoses and pipes are not pinched, kinked or blocked
- 4Avoid hard driving while the temperature is high, then clear the fault code to see whether it returns
- 5Safety note: steering is safety-critical, so have a workshop check the steering gear and the control module if assistance is still missing
Symptoms you may notice1
- No or poor steering assistance
What the fault can affect1
- Power to the pump motor is restricted
