What does this fault code mean?
Communication on the HS-CAN bus has been interrupted, either by another control module on the bus or by the control module's own messages interfering with the network. The power steering control module then cannot be reached, and the power steering regulation does not work.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wiring
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is charged and that the fuses for the power steering are intact
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read off the fault codes in the other control modules and start with those
- 3Gently shake the wiring and connectors at the power steering while checking, to see whether the fault shows up
- 4Safety note: steering is safety-critical, so have a workshop with diagnostic equipment measure the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice1
- The power steering regulation does not work
What the fault can affect3
- The control module shuts itself off ("bus-off")
- It remains shut off until its power is interrupted
- When the power supply is reconnected, the control module tries to communicate again
