What does this fault code mean?
The power steering control module (PSCM) has disconnected itself from the HS-CAN bus (bus-off) because of interference. The cause may be a short or break in the CAN wiring, an internal fault in another control module on the same part of the network, or an internal fault in the control module itself.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wiring
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the fuses for the power steering are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read off the fault codes in the other control modules and start with those
- 4Check the connectors and wiring at the power steering for loose contacts, chafing and pinch damage
- 5Safety note: steering is safety-critical, so have a workshop decide what needs replacing if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- Text window with warning symbol and text message
- Other steering or handling problems
What the fault can affect3
- The control module disconnects itself from the bus (bus-off)
- It remains shut off until its power is interrupted
- When power is connected again, it tries to communicate once more
