Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
4 modelsS60 (2011–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–)
What does this fault code mean?
Power steering has lost contact with the brake control module (BCM) over the CAN network, so it cannot read the information that comes from there. The fault lies in the control module that sends the information, which should be traced first.
Possible causes
- Fault in the transmitting control module
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: first check whether the brake control module (BCM) has its own fault codes, and start with those
- 3Check the connectors at the power steering control module for loose contacts and oxidation
- 4Safety note: brakes and steering are safety systems, so have a workshop trace the communication with the brake control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Steering requires extra or uneven effort
- Other steering or handling problems
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a standard value instead of the actual information
