What does this fault code mean?
The power steering control module receives no speed data for the car from the brake control module (BCM) over CAN, so it falls back to a standard value. The fault lies in the control module that sends the information.
Possible causes
- Fault in the control module that sends the information
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether the brake control module (BCM) has its own fault codes and start with those
- 3Check the connectors at the power steering and at the brake control module
- 4Safety note: brakes and steering are safety systems, so have a workshop carry out the communication check
Symptoms you may notice3
- Abnormally light steering at high speed
- Abnormally sluggish steering at low speed
- Other steering or handling problems
What the fault can affect1
- The vehicle speed signal is replaced by a standard value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
