What does this fault code mean?
The power steering has received information from the engine control module (ECM) that it judges as incorrect or unreasonable. The fault lies in the control module that sends the information. The code is a knock-on fault, so the fault search should be carried out in the sending module, and the code can be cleared only once the root fault has been fixed.
Possible causes
- Fault in the control module that sends the information
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code only once the root fault in the engine control module is fixed, then see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: check first whether the engine control module (ECM) has its own fault codes and start with those
- 3Check that the connectors in the power steering harness are firmly seated
- 4Safety note: steering is safety-critical, so have a workshop trace the engine control module if its codes remain
Symptoms you may notice2
- Steering requires extra or uneven effort
- Other steering or handling problems
