What does this fault code mean?
The power steering control module (PSCM) has detected that internal components are not working as they should. Steering assistance may then be reduced, and the code can also be set if a mechanical or hydraulic problem in the power steering affects the module's self-test.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the power steering module
- A mechanical or hydraulic problem such as a faulty steering rack or blocked power steering hoses
What you can do
- 1On cars with hydraulic power steering: check the fluid level and look for leaks in the hoses and steering rack
- 2Check that the battery and charging system work, as the power steering is sensitive to low voltage
- 3Clear the code; if it returns as permanent, the module needs checking and most likely replacing
- 4Drive carefully – the steering works, but may need much more effort
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and message in the display
- The steering feels heavy or uneven
- Steering assistance control does not work as normal
What the fault can affect1
- Steering may have reduced function
