Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The driver's seat module (PSM) receives no Hall sensor pulse from motor 1, which controls the seat's length adjustment, while the motor is activated. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred at an earlier time but may not be present right now.
Possible causes
- Defective Hall sensor in motor 1
- Signal wire shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the Hall sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code and clear it
- 2Because the fault is intermittent: road test the seat and check whether the fault code comes back
- 3Check the connectors to the driver's seat module and to the seat motor for oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Look for chafing or pinching damage on the wires between the module and the motor, especially where they move when the seat is adjusted
- 5Wiggle and flex the harness while measuring with a multimeter, to see whether the break or short comes and goes
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the seat motor, since the Hall sensor is built into it
Symptoms you may notice1
- Automatic operation of the seat does not work, while the other motors work as normal
