Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent: the signal from the Hall sensor in motor 4, which controls the seat front edge height, has been lost on an earlier occasion but is not present now. Motor 4 has been activated and running without any Hall pulses being detected. Automatic seat operation then does not work.
Possible causes
- Defective Hall sensor in motor 4
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- Broken wire on the signal line running to the Hall sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and run the seat to see whether it returns.
- 2Check that the connectors to the seat control module and to motor 4 are firmly seated and show no signs of oxidation.
- 3Gently move the wiring to motor 4 while the seat is run. If the operation stops or the fault code returns, the wiring is the likely cause.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable has no open circuit and no contact with ground or supply voltage.
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: run motor 4 and check that the Hall sensor value counts up and down in both directions.
- 6If the fault returns despite these checks, have a workshop check the control module and the motor.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Automatic seat operation does not work
- Automatic operation of the other motors works as normal
