Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The power seat control module (PSM) communicates with other control modules over the CAN network, and here it has detected a general fault on the medium speed network (MS-CAN). The fault can be caused by a short or open circuit in the CAN wiring, by another control module on the same part of the network sending faulty messages, or by a damaged seat control module.
Possible causes
- Short-circuit in the CAN wiring
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Damaged power seat control module (PSM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the car first. Communication faults in other control modules can give the same code, so they should be fixed first
- 2With the battery negative lead disconnected, check the CAN wires with a multimeter for open circuits and shorts to ground or voltage
- 3Check the connectors in the CAN network for loose, oxidised or damp connections
- 4If another control module on the network is sending faulty messages, have a workshop locate it with diagnostic equipment
- 5Have a workshop replace the seat control module only if fault-tracing shows that it is the faulty part
Symptoms you may notice4
- Remote operation does not work
- Automatic seat and outer mirror adjustment does not work
- Front seat, power seat adjustment and folding do not work
- Automatic adjustment to a stored position (memory) does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The control module switches itself off ("bus-off")
- It stays off until the power supply is interrupted and reconnected, then it makes a new attempt to communicate
