Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) has detected a fault inside itself, and the code is stored when this is found. The fault therefore sits in the control module rather than in its wiring. Because the REM controls several functions at the back of the car, the fuel gauge and the locking of the tailgate and fuel filler cap can be affected.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the rear electronic module (REM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car; if it does not come back there is nothing more to do
- 2Check that the fuse for the rear electronic module has not blown
- 3If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the rear electronic module (REM)
Symptoms you may notice3
- The fuel gauge does not work
- The tailgate cannot be locked or unlocked
- The fuel filler cap cannot be locked or unlocked
