VOLVO
REM-3FD1 - Relay, gas tank valve. Signal too high
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) controls the relay for the gas tank valve. The code is set when the signal to the relay coil is too high, which happens if the relay is damaged or if voltage is present on the relay coil. The car then cannot be driven on gas, and switching to gas operation can make the engine stall.
Possible causes
- Damaged relay
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the relay coil
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the gas tank valve relay a few times and listen for a click; if no click is heard the fault is probably permanent
- 3Check that the relay is seated correctly and not damaged, and if it is, have a workshop replace it
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not run on gas
- Switching to gas operation makes the engine stall
