What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) monitors the relay that controls the gas tank valve, and the code is set when the signal to the relay coil is too low. The cause can be a damaged relay, a break or a short to ground in the coil, a loose or missing relay, or oxidised contacts in the relay base. Gas operation then cannot be used.
Possible causes
- Damaged relay
- A break or a short to ground in the relay coil
- The relay is loose or missing
- Oxidation on the relay base contacts
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the gas tank valve relay sits firmly in its base and that the contacts are not oxidised
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the relay a few times and listen for a click; if the click is heard, the fault was probably temporary
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the relay
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not run on gas
- Switching to gas operation stalls the engine
