REM-4A35
VOLVO
REM-4A35 - Fuel level sensor. Faulty signal. Intermittent fault
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
When the engine runs, the control module judges the signal from the sensor in the right half of the tank to be faulty, because the level stays still although there is fuel. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred before but may not be present now. The fuel gauge may then stop working, and the trip computer may show the tank as empty too early.
Possible causes
- Faulty fuel level sensor in the right half of the tank
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and drive the car for a while, and see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the right fuel level sensor and at the rear electronic module (REM) for looseness and oxidation
- 3Check the wires running between the two fuel level sensors for chafing and temporary breaks
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the right tank half level in live data with the engine running and check that it changes as fuel is used
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop investigate the sensor and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The trip computer reports the tank as empty too early
- The fuel gauge has no function
What the fault can affect1
- The control module sets the fuel level to zero
