Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The control module monitors the sensor in the right half of the tank. If the sensor has an open circuit or is shorted to battery voltage, the signal may be missing or too high. The fault is intermittent: it has occurred before but may not be present now. The fuel gauge may then stop working.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the fuel level sensor in the right half of the tank
- The fuel level sensor in the right half of the tank is shorted to battery voltage
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the connectors to the sensor in the right half of the tank are secure and free from corrosion
- 3Check the wire between the left and right fuel level sensors for breaks and chafing
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the right fuel level sensor has no contact with positive and is not broken
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop trace the sensor and the wiring further
Symptoms you may notice2
- The trip computer shows the tank is empty early
- The fuel gauge does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
