REM-4A41
VOLVO
REM-4A41 - Gas temperature sensor. Signal too low
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) monitors the signal from the gas temperature sensor. When the signal becomes too low, the code is set. The signal wire may be shorted to ground or have a break, and the gas and fuel level readings can then be affected so that the gauge shows zero.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to ground in the signal wire
- Defective gas temperature sensor
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal wire
- Break in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive the car; if it shows up again, the fault is still there
- 2Check the connector to the gas temperature sensor for damage and loose contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the gas temperature sensor is not shorted to ground
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the gas temperature sensor and check the wiring
Symptoms you may notice4
- The fuel level gauge does not work
- The trip computer shows an empty tank too early
- The fuel gauge reads zero although there is fuel in the tank
- The gas level gauge does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
