REM-4A42
VOLVO
REM-4A42 - Gas pressure sensor. Signal too high
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) keeps watch on the output of the gas pressure sensor. If the signal is too high, for example because the signal wire has been shorted to supply voltage or the sensor is defective, the code is set. The gas level and fuel level readings can then be affected.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal wire
- Defective pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Note the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the gas pressure sensor for damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the gas pressure sensor is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the gas pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The gas level gauge does not work
- The fuel gauge drops to zero although there is fuel in the tank
- The trip computer reports an empty tank too early
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
