REM-4A44
VOLVO
REM-4A44 - Fuel level, gas. Faulty signal
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the signal from the sensor for the gas level in the gas tank. With the engine running, the control module registers that the level does not change although there is gas in the tank, and the code is set. The gas level gauge then does not work, and the trip computer may show the tank as empty too early.
Possible causes
- Defective sensor for the gas level in the gas tank
- The sensor gives an incorrect signal
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the gas level in live data while you fill gas and check that the value rises
- 2Clear the fault code and test drive the car, and note whether it comes back
- 3Check the connector and the wire to the gas level sensor for chafing and loose contacts
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop replace the gas level sensor
Symptoms you may notice4
- The trip computer shows the tank empty too early
- The fuel level gauge does not work
- The fuel gauge reads zero although there is fuel in the tank
- The gas level gauge does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
