REM-4A45
VOLVO
REM-4A45 - Fuel level, gas. Signal too high
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) keeps track of the signal from the gas level sensor. If the signal is too high, the code is stored. The cause can be an open circuit in the sensor, a sensor shorted to battery voltage, or a signal wire shorted to supply voltage. The fuel level is then set to zero.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the gas fuel level sensor
- The gas fuel level sensor is shorted to battery voltage
- The signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector to the gas fuel level sensor is secure and free from oxidation and damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no voltage when the ignition is off
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the gas fuel level sensor
Symptoms you may notice4
- The trip computer shows the tank empty too early
- The fuel gauge does not work
- The fuel gauge reads zero although there is fuel in the tank
- The gas level gauge does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
