REM-4A46
VOLVO
REM-4A46 - Fuel level, gas. Signal too low
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) watches the output of the gas level sensor. When that output is too low, the code is set, and the cause may be a signal wire shorted to ground or a faulty sensor. The fuel level is then set to zero and the gas level gauge does not work.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
- The gas level sensor is defective
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the connector to the gas level sensor for damage and loose contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground and has no break
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the gas level sensor
Symptoms you may notice4
- The fuel level gauge does not work
- The trip computer shows the tank empty too early
- The fuel gauge reads zero although there is fuel in the tank
- The gas level gauge does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
