REM-4A48
VOLVO
REM-4A48 - Fuel level, gas. Signal too high
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) looks at the gas level signal, and if that signal is too high because the signal wire is shorted to supply voltage, the code is set. The trip computer may then show an empty tank early, and the gas level gauge does not work.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and test drive the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the gas fuel level sensor for damage and loose contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no voltage when the ignition is off
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop trace the signal wire further
Symptoms you may notice4
- The trip computer shows the tank empty too early
- The fuel gauge reads zero although there is fuel in the tank
- The gas level gauge does not work
- The automatic headlamp range control does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel level is set to zero
