REM-6A02
VOLVO
REM-6A02 - Switch central locking motor. Signal too high
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
Through several relays, the rear electronic module (REM) drives the lock units in the rear doors, and receives feedback from a switch in each lock unit showing whether the lock motor is locked or unlocked. The switch should be closed in the locked position. The code can appear during locking when no further lock command has followed for a while, and then a door will not lock.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the terminals
- The lock motor position switch is faulty or shorted to supply voltage, or its wire has a break
- The lock motor has jammed in one position
- Break in the ground lead or body connection of the lock mechanism
- A wire to the lock motors has a break or is shorted to ground or to supply voltage, including the wiring to and from the child lock relay
- Damaged child lock relay, or a fault in the wiring from the window lift switch to that relay
What you can do
- 1Test the lock on the left and right rear doors and see whether the door can be opened when unlocked but not when locked
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the rear door lock status while locking and unlocking and check that it changes for the correct door
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the ground wire to the lock mechanism has no break
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop trace the circuit for the door that showed the fault
Symptoms you may notice1
- A door does not lock or unlock
