Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
Through several relays, the rear electronic module (REM) drives the lock units in the rear doors, and a switch in each lock unit tells it whether the lock motor is locked or unlocked. When unlocking, the code is set if REM finds that the signal from that switch is wrong and no further lock command has followed for a while, and a door may then not unlock.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- The lock motor position switch is faulty or shorted to ground, or its wire is shorted to ground
- The lock motor has jammed in one position
- Break in the ground lead or body connection of the lock mechanism
- The wires to the lock motors have a break or are shorted to ground or supply voltage, including to and from the child lock relay
- Damaged child lock relay, or a fault in the wiring from the window lift switch to that relay
What you can do
- 1Lock and unlock the left and right rear doors separately and check that each one responds
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the rear door lock status when unlocking and check that it changes for the correct door
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the ground wire to the lock mechanism has no break
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop trace the circuit for the door that showed the fault
Symptoms you may notice1
- A door does not lock or unlock
