This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) has registered too high a signal on the ground circuit of the relay coil when it locks the car in the deadlock position (BLL). The fault lies in the relay or in the control module, so the car does not lock to the deadlock position and does not open from it.
Possible causes
- Faulty relay, with a short circuit in the relay coil
- Defective rear electronic module (REM)
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it and try locking the car in deadlock mode to see whether it returns
- 2Replace the deadlock relay with a new one and check that locking works
- 3If locking works after the replacement, the relay was the fault
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the rear electronic module (REM)
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cannot lock into deadlock mode (BLL)
- Cannot open from deadlock mode (BLL)
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
