Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) has registered that the signal is missing, or too low, on the ground circuit of the relay coil when it should lock the car in deadlock mode (BLL). The fault may lie in the relay socket, the relay or the control module, and the car then either fails to lock into deadlock mode or fails to open from it.
Possible causes
- Oxidation of the contacts in the relay socket
- The relay is loose or missing
- Faulty relay, with an open circuit or short to ground in the relay coil
- Defective control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the relay is firmly seated in its socket and that its contacts are not oxidised
- 2If locking works after that check, the fault was a contact fault in the socket
- 3Replace the relay with a new one and check whether deadlock mode then works
- 4Check that the control module has its power supply, and have a workshop check the control module if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cannot lock into deadlock mode (BLL)
- Cannot open from deadlock mode (BLL)
