Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The rear electronic module (REM) has received too high a signal from the hood switch, which should show that the hood is closed. The fault is caused by the switch being shorted to supply voltage. The hood switch is only fitted on cars with an alarm, and without the correct signal the alarm does not react when the hood is opened.
Possible causes
- The switch indicating a closed hood is shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the hood switch signal with the ignition on while you open and close the hood. The signal should change status
- 2If the signal does not change status, the fault is permanent
- 3Check the wiring and connector at the hood switch for chafing, loose contacts and damage
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire from the hood switch has no contact with voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the hood switch and the rear electronic module (REM)
Symptoms you may notice3
- General warning lamp on
- Message shown in the text display
- The alarm does not react to the hood
