Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it is sporadic and may not be present right now. The rear electronic module (REM) has lost the signal on the communication cable to the level sensor. The fault may lie in a connector, in the cable, in the sensor supply or ground, or in the sensor itself, and the alarm then does not react to the sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact fault on the sensor side or the control module side, or both
- Open circuit, short to supply voltage or short to ground in the communication cable to the level sensor
- Open circuit in the sensor supply or ground wire
- Defective sensor
What you can do
- 1Inspect the wiring to the level sensor for chafing, pinching and damage, especially where it moves
- 2Check the connectors at both the sensor and the control module for oxidation and loose contacts
- 3If no fault is found, replace the level sensor and check whether the alarm works
- 4If the fault remains or comes back, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment continue the fault-finding
Symptoms you may notice1
- The alarm does not react to the level sensor
