REM-8F11 - Xenon lamp position sensor. Signal too low
System
Rear Electronic Module (REM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The module (REM) monitors the xenon lamp position sensor signal. The fault code is set when that signal is too low, which can come from a signal cable shorted to ground or broken, or from a sensor that is fitted incorrectly or missing. The road illumination and the automatic headlamp range control then stop working.
Possible causes
- Signal cable shorted to ground
- Break in the signal cable
- The xenon lamp position sensor is fitted incorrectly
- The position sensor is not fitted
What you can do
- 1Check that the xenon lamp position sensor is seated correctly, and fit it if it is missing
- 2With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal cable is not shorted to ground and has no break
- 3Also check the position sensor's power supply and ground connection
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment continue the fault-finding
Symptoms you may notice2
- The road surface is not illuminated
- The automatic headlamp range control does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The shortest headlamp range is used
