Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The REM supplies the load area lighting straight from a dedicated output and checks the signal at that output. If the signal is too low the code is stored, and the lighting does not work.
Possible causes
- Short-circuit to ground in the signal cable
What you can do
- 1Read the code and clear it first, since the output may stay switched off until the code is cleared
- 2With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the cargo compartment lighting has no contact with ground (the bodywork)
- 3Check that the connectors at the REM and at the cargo compartment lighting are fully seated and free from oxidation, and look for chafing on the cable
- 4Remedy the fault, clear the code again and check that the cargo compartment lighting works
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cargo compartment lighting does not work
What the fault can affect1
- On cars built from late September 2005: once the fault has been registered in 100 ignition cycles, the output is switched off permanently until the code is cleared
