What does this fault code mean?
The road traffic information control module (RTI) checks its configuration ID against the signal configuration that the CEM sends on the CAN network. If the IDs do not match, or if communication with the CEM is interrupted, the code is set. With an open circuit in both CAN wires, the RTI only answers the diagnostic tool and normal CAN communication stops, which is known as expulsion mode.
Possible causes
- Incorrect CAN configuration ID: the module is not meant for this vehicle, such as a used unit with different software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring between the RTI and the CEM
What you can do
- 1Start by looking for codes for lost communication in the central electronic module (CEM)
- 2With the negative battery lead disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires between the RTI and the CEM have no open circuit
- 3Check that the connectors at the RTI are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 4If the wires are intact and the fault remains, the RTI may be a used unit with the wrong configuration; have a workshop check the configuration and download new software if needed
Symptoms you may notice5
- The display for the RTI does not work
- The display does not deploy
- The map shows the car in the wrong place
- The RTI rheostat function does not work
- Traffic information is not shown or not updated
