VOLVO
SAS-0002 - LED group 1 circuit. Signal too high
System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering wheel angle sensor measures the wheel angle with LEDs and receivers, and the control unit monitors the current in LED group 1. The code is set when the current is too high, which switches off the stability function and blocks anti-spin.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the connections and connector blocks
- Short-circuit to supply voltage in the LED circuit
- LED 1-4 defective; this applies to this code
- LED 5-8 defective; SAS-0026 is set instead
- Defective control unit
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the angle sensor and the SWM are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 2With diagnostic equipment and the ignition on, read the current in the LED circuit
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the cables between the angle sensor and the SWM have no contact with voltage (plus)
- 4If the cables are intact, the steering wheel angle sensor may be defective; replacing it is a job for a workshop
- 5Safety: anti-spin and stability are switched off while the fault is present, so have a workshop remedy it; do not work on the steering wheel, steering wheel module or angle sensor yourself
Symptoms you may notice3
- The anti-spin warning lamp is on
- The stability function does not work
- Anti-spin does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The stability function is disconnected
- The anti-spin function is blocked
