System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering wheel angle sensor reads the wheel with LEDs and receivers that follow a perforated code disc. The code is set when signal A, or any of the other steering wheel angle signals, is too high. The fault is intermittent.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the connections and connector blocks
- Short-circuit to supply voltage
- Open circuit
- Defective control unit
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the steering wheel angle sensor and the steering wheel module are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 2With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the cables to the angle sensor have no open circuit and no contact with voltage (plus)
- 3With diagnostic equipment and the ignition on, read the steering wheel angle signals and see whether any of them looks wrong
- 4Safety: anti-spin and stability are switched off while the fault is present, so have a workshop remedy it; do not work on the steering system yourself
Symptoms you may notice3
- The anti-spin warning lamp is on
- The stability function is absent
- Anti-spin does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The stability function is disconnected
- The anti-spin function is blocked
