Signal IX from the steering wheel angle sensor is too low, and the code is set then. The signal is one of several that the code disc provides, and the fault is intermittent.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the connections and connector blocks
- Open circuit
- Short-circuit to ground
- Defective SAS element
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the angle sensor and the steering wheel module are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 2With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the cables to the angle sensor have no open circuit and no contact with ground (the bodywork)
- 3If the cables are intact, the SAS element in the angle sensor may be defective; replacing the sensor is a job for a workshop
- 4Safety: anti-spin and stability are switched off while the fault is present, so have a workshop remedy it; do not work on the steering system yourself
Symptoms you may notice3
- The anti-spin warning lamp is on
- The stability function is absent
- Anti-spin does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The stability function is disconnected
- The anti-spin function is blocked
