What does this fault code mean?
The signal from steering wheel angle channel IY is too low, and the fault is intermittent: it has occurred at some point but does not always show. The cause lies in connectors and wiring to the sensor, or in the sensor element itself.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connections and connectors
- Open circuit in the wiring
- Short circuit to ground
- Defective sensor element in the steering wheel angle sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the steering wheel angle sensor are secure and free from corrosion
- 3Using a multimeter, check that the wiring from the sensor is not short-circuited to ground (the body)
- 4Follow the wiring from the steering wheel angle sensor and look for chafing, pinching and loose clips
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: follow signal IY in live data while turning the wheel, and see whether the value stays low or jumps in some positions
- 6The stability function stays off while the fault is present, so have a workshop repair it promptly if it returns
