What does this fault code mean?
The signal for steering wheel angle signal R1 is too high, and the fault is intermittent: it has occurred at some point but may not be active right now. The cause may be poor contact, a short to supply voltage, an open circuit in the wiring, or a defective control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connections and connectors
- Short circuit to voltage supply
- Open circuit
- Defective control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Make sure the connectors at the steering wheel angle sensor are whole, clean and firmly seated
- 3Check the wiring between the steering wheel angle sensor and the control module for breaks, chafing or pinching
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the R1 angle signal in live data while turning the wheel slowly, and check that the value follows the wheel without jumps
- 5Stability control is off while the fault is present, so have a workshop repair it promptly if it returns
