SAS-0047
VOLVO
SAS-0047 - Control unit. No signal. Intermittent fault
System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The sensor control module registers that its ground connection is missing, and the fault is intermittent: it has occurred at some point but may not be active right now. The causes may be oxide in connectors, a break in the ground connection, an internal control module fault, or a signal wire shorted to supply voltage.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation at a connector in the sensor control module or steering wheel module
- Break in the ground connection
- Internal fault in the control module
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the sensor control module and the steering wheel module are firmly seated and free from oxide
- 3With a multimeter, check that the ground wire to the sensor control module has contact with the body (ground)
- 4With a multimeter, check that no signal wire to the sensor is short-circuited to supply voltage
- 5Stability control stays off while the fault is present, so have a workshop repair it promptly
Symptoms you may notice2
- Anti-spin warning lamp on
- Stabilising function absent
What the fault can affect1
- Stability control disconnected
