System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The sensor control module registers that the signal from the sensor is faulty. The cause may be poor contact at a connector, faults in the signal cables, or an internal fault in the sensor or its control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation at a connector in the sensor control module or steering wheel module
- Signal cable fault between the sensor and its control module
- Internal fault in the sensor
- Internal fault in the control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the sensor control module and the steering wheel module are firmly seated and free from oxide
- 3If the fault disappears once the connectors have been cleaned and reseated, poor contact was probably the cause
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal wires are not short-circuited to ground or to supply voltage
- 5The anti-spin lamp is on, so have a workshop repair the fault promptly if it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- Anti-spin warning lamp lit
- Stability function absent
