SAS-C010229
VOLVO
SAS-C010229 - Analogue sensor sum outside limit. General signal fault. Signal invalid
System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelXC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor (SAS) sits inside the steering wheel module and reads a code wheel that follows the steering wheel. Two analogue photo diodes help read the code wheel. If the signal from one or both of them is faulty, the code is set, and the fault lies in the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Internal malfunction within the steering angle sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Start the engine and check whether the code is still stored. Clear it and test drive the car to see if it returns.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the drive-cycle counter. Many incorrect cycles point to a recurring fault; few point to a temporary one needing no action.
- 3Have a workshop replace the contact reel or angle sensor if the code keeps returning, and the steering wheel module if it returns after that.
- 4The angle sensor is part of the stability system. Do not work on the steering wheel or sensor yourself; have a workshop diagnose and repair it.
Symptoms you may notice3
- The anti-spin warning lamp lights up
- The general warning lamp lights up
- The stability function does not work
What the fault can affect1
