SAS-C1B001C - Steering angle sensor. General Electrical Failures. Circuit voltage out of range
System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor (SAS) is mounted in the lever module alongside the steering wheel module (SWM), which powers it. The code is set if the sensors' supply voltage is excessive or insufficient. The fault lies in the sensor itself, and the anti-spin and stability functions are affected.
Possible causes
- Damaged steering angle sensor.
What you can do
- 1Turn the wheel fully right, then fully left, then straight ahead. Switch off the ignition, wait a while and restart the engine.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the counters for the code. Many incorrect drive cycles compared with correct ones point to a recurring fault.
- 3If the code returns after replacing the contact reel or angle sensor, the steering wheel module (SWM) must also be replaced by a workshop.
- 4The angle sensor is part of the steering and stability system. Have a workshop diagnose and replace it rather than working on the wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- A yellow warning symbol and text message appear in the display
- The anti-spin and anti-skid warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- The anti-spin function does not work
- The stability function does not work
- The active chassis does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor tells the other control modules in the car that its information is incorrect
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
