SAS-C1B0061 - Steering angle sensor. Algorithm Based Failures. Signal compare failure
System
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor (SAS) has two processors that cooperate and cross-check one another for internal faults. The code is set when the control module finds an internal fault in the software, and the fault then lies in the sensor.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS).
- Internal software fault in the steering angle sensor.
What you can do
- 1Start the engine, turn the wheel fully right, then fully left, and then straight ahead. Check whether the code is still stored.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the counters. Many incorrect drive cycles compared with correct ones point to a recurring fault.
- 3If the code returns, the steering wheel module (SWM) must be replaced. Have a workshop do the replacement and confirm the fault is gone.
- 4The angle sensor is part of the anti-spin and stability system. Have a workshop diagnose and repair it rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- A yellow warning symbol and text message show in the display
- The anti-spin and anti-skid warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- The anti-spin function does not work
- The stability function does not work
- The active chassis does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
