Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
Two processors in the steering angle sensor calculate the steering angle from the sensor's information and compare the results. The code is set when the results do not match, which is caused by an internal fault in the sensor.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Turn the wheel fully one way, then fully the other, and set it straight ahead with the ignition on. Check whether the code is still stored.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the number of drive cycles with a fault and compare it with those without one. Many incorrect cycles point to a recurring fault.
- 3If the code returns after a test drive, have a workshop replace the steering wheel module (SWM).
- 4The angle sensor affects the anti-spin and stability functions. Have a workshop carry out the repair rather than working on the steering wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice5
- A yellow warning symbol and text message show in the display
- The anti-spin and anti-skid warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- The anti-spin function does not work
- The stability function does not work
- The active chassis does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
