What does this fault code mean?
The steering angle sensor has two magnetic sensors that read the steering wheel position. The code is set when either of them gives an unreasonable value. The fault may be a damaged sensor or an internal fault in the sensor, and the anti-spin and stability functions are affected.
Possible causes
- Damaged steering angle sensor.
- Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS).
What you can do
- 1Turn the wheel fully right and then fully left with the ignition on, then set it straight ahead. Check whether the code is still stored.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the counters. Many incorrect drive cycles point to a recurring fault, while few point to a temporary one.
- 3If the code returns after replacing the contact reel or angle sensor, the steering wheel module (SWM) must also be replaced. Have a workshop do this.
- 4The angle sensor affects the anti-spin and stability functions. Have a workshop carry out the repair rather than working on the wheel yourself.
Symptoms you may notice4
- A yellow warning symbol and text message show in the display
- The anti-spin and anti-skid warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- The anti-spin, stability and active chassis functions do not work
- The traction control warning lamp lights up
What the fault can affect2
- The sensor warns the other control modules that the data it sends is wrong
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
